Summer League Game 5 Recap: Bucks 96 76ers 94

The Bucks Get a Blockbuster Win in Their Final Game of the Summer League, and It's Another Day at the Office for Brayden Burries

The Bucks win in a nailbiter as Brayden Burries puts on another one of the masterclasses that are getting Bucks fans so excited for him.

First Quarter

Nate Ament comes out with the same aggression as last game, getting some really strong moves to the hoop and splashing a pull-up three from deep. He is looking good at pushing his dribble in transition, and it works well for him. He runs into some trouble trying to go laterally with his dribble in half-court sets when pressure is being applied. He’s also getting to the line at a better rate, which was one of his main skills in college. He gets a great alley-oop slam and a strong and-1, and he finishes his first quarter with 9 points. 

The Bucks had a good overall first quarter as a team, winning or staying close in most stats, and we finished the quarter winning 28-22.

Second Quarter

Brayden Burries gets going all over again, he continues to attack the rim using his strength and change of pace to get to his spots, it looked like he could get to wherever he wanted this quarter finishing with 8 points for the quarter, and he I think there was definitely some points left out there for him with a few missed layups that he could make or at least a few foul calls that could’ve been made. 

The Bucks had a worse quarter this time, struggling to move the ball and rebound, and we went into the half down 1, 50-51.

Third Quarter

Pete Nance had an average game today, but I'm seriously impressed by his three-point stroke. He hit 3 of 6 for the day. It looks like something he is going to be able to implement for the Bucks during the NBA season, especially with the openings we have at the Power Forward position, missing Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis leaving a space for him to be a stretch four, which I think suits his size and frame better than the center position. 

Another slow quarter for the Bucks, and we are going into the fourth down 69-74.

Fourth Quarter

Kam Jones’ passing looked great today, and he really was able to give another safe ball-handling option for the Bucks during this Summer League. 

Nate Ament really slowed down after his great first quarter, but he had a great day on the boards, pulling in 7 of them, and that was a big part of his ability to push the break during the first quarter as he became clear in transition from the board and could push the pace. 

John Butler had a great quarter for us with 8 points and scoring 2 for 2 from three, which was something I was yet to see from him during this Summer League. 

Brayden Burries gets going again, and he starts taking control of the game, still getting to the rim when he pleases and making the hard layups that I think he could have been making earlier on in the game. Who would’ve thought the Bucks would enter the final 10 seconds of the game tied 94-94, and Brayden Burries would take the ball full court and hit a contact layup to win the game for the Bucks, and the look on his face tells us it's just another day in the office.

MVP

Brayden Burries has done it all over again. He finished with 27 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, a steal and a block on 50% from the field, so the MVP for this game goes to him. I was high on this guy when we drafted him, but he has seriously impressed during this Summer League, and I think he has raised a lot of questions on how high his ceiling really is.
